I completely agree that candidates and employers now need a place where they can promote themselves to each other in a professional but realistic way. Somewhere designed specifically to act as a professional platform to facilitate Companies and Individuals really getting to know each other behind the mask.

I like the phrase ‘Online reputation management’ as it encompasses what all companies and social networkers (whether job seeking or not) should now be doing.

We have all read the horror stories of people not getting a job because of something they put on You Tube or getting fired for a Facebook post. Perhaps this is not always their fault as these sites were never originally designed for employers to search and it appears destroy potential employees because they have made a post of themselves drinking to much etc.

However posting anything negative about your current employer, true or not, is obviously dangerous regardless of where it is posted.

Each individual and company must take these stories as a warning that it is their own responsibility to ‘manage their online reputation’ in a way that shows them in the best light.

There are sites built specifically so both companies and individuals can show their corporate and non-corporate face to the world and each other professionally.

I myself always think hard before making any post to the Web, even this one!
Who might read this?; How might it be perceived?; Is this post going to help or hurt my 'online reputation'?

Of course we are ultimatly not the judges of this and will at times get it wrong so don't let me scare you off making posts online, it's a great way to promote yourself or company.
